Lighting

Lighting is an extremely important part of setting up any shot. Getting the correct lighting can make a huge difference to the quality of a film and in some instances set the tone for the film. Often the best kind of lighting is natural sunlight but that is unfortunately not always possible. When this is the cas artificial lighting is the next best thing. Traditionally, Tungsten lights were the best option however, nowadays we have LED lights that are both more versatile and more efficient. LEDs have the capability of being battery powered so you can use them without the need for mains electricity or a generator. They also have the ability to chnge tones. Fo example you can set them to a warmer tones similar to that of a Tungsten bulb or to a much cooler tone depending on what shot you need. We did a workshop where we experimented with both tungsten and LED lights to see what effects we could produce with regards to anggles, tones and brightness. We then took stills after we were happy withthe effects that we had produced. We then used this knowledge in a recent short film we did to help improve the quality of our work.
